Mages have always been known as the one specialization that received the short end of the stick when it comes to balance and leveling, but there are ways to make it work. That being said, this does mean that many newcomers to the series may make a few mistakes when it comes to playing as an all-powerful mage in Skyrim. Unlike past games, the player doesn't need to pick a specific class in order to build the character they want, and, instead, the focus is on combining the skills themselves rather than following a set path.
